Işıl Acar (b. 1994, Istanbul) has been engaged with art from an early age, receiving training at Ada Sanat, Renk Art Academy, and Pera Güzel Sanatlar summer school. She graduated from the Department of Visual Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Işık University, in 2019. In 2026, she completed a residency at Art Print Residence, Barcelona.
Acar's artistic practice focuses on the dramatization of everyday situations, transforming ordinary moments into intensified, exaggerated, and staged visual narratives. Constructing her works by exaggerating, layering, and staging emotional states, she amplifies specific gestures, expressions, and points of tension rather than representing reality as it is, deliberately guiding the viewer toward particular emotional conditions. These scenes function as emotional triggers that, rather than offering direct explanations, push the viewer to follow and construct their own cues.
The familiar is transformed through exaggeration, fragmentation, and theatrical construction. By layering multiple emotional states within a single composition, Acar creates ambiguous moments in which vulnerability, absurdity, and intensity coexist. Through this process, she questions how meaning is not a fixed structure, but is continuously reconstructed through perception, impulse, and external forces.
